MISSION:The mission of the Learning Resource Center is to provide instructional support that promotes the development and success of students. Instructional support is facilitated through collaborative learning principles, peer tutors in content area courses, computer–assisted instruction, resource depositories, and essential skill labs including math, reading, and writing.

Located on the ground floor of the Library + Learning Resource Center (LLRC) building, the student-centered Learning Resource Center (LRC), like the Library, has become a hub of student learning activity for students enrolled in LAHC's resident and non-resident (online) courses and programs. The LRC provides students with free tutorial and learning support services in select subject matter areas, as well as workshops related to study skills, research paper formatting styles, math, and navigating the Etudes learning platform.

The LRC is home to the Math Lab, the Writing Lab (writing across the curriculum), the Lit. Center (reading across the curriculum), the S.P.S. High-tech Center, and the Computer Commons, which is an open access computer lab with pay-to-print capabilities for registered LAHC students.  Students enrolled in special labs and programs must check-in and check-out on the AccuTrack computer system at the Help Desk or in the specialized labs.

Tutoring assistance is available on a drop-in basis.  New students enroll in Tutor 001 (Supervised Learning), a free, zero-unit tutoring activity section open to students enrolled in LAHC courses.  Tutor 001 does not appear on the student's transcript.

Goals of the Learning Resource Center are to:

  • Provide instructional support services that nurture student's academic growth.
  • Provide an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment conducive to learning;
  • Provide personnel needed to support the LRC.
  • Provide current equipment that is in good repair
    (e.g. replace equipment as needed every 3 years).
  • Update instructional support materials as needed.
